Error code ERRS2

Check list:

  • You will need a freshly formatted USB stick to perform a software upgrade on your product.
  • You will need the latest software download for your product from here: http://support.pure.com/files.php?
  • You will need a decompression tool like WinZip installed on your computer.

Preparing the file and your USB stick

  • When you download the file to your computer it will arrive as a 'compressed' file (.ZIP) that will need decompressing (or unpacking) before it can be used. Use a decompression tool like WinZip to decompress (or unpack) the file, and save the file to a location on your computer that you will easily find. There is only a single .dfu file in the zip to save.
  • Make sure your USB stick is freshly formatted with no data stored on it.
  • Now copy or move the unpacked .dfu file to your freshly formatted USB stick. The .dfu file should be the only file present on the USB stick.

Installing the software on your Pure product

  • Insert the USB stick into the USB port on your Pure product and your device will install the software automatically.

The update process will begin but note that it may take around five minute to complete. Ensure that you do not switch off Pure device or interrupt the update process in any way.

Evoke Mio\ 1S blank display

On very rare occasions you may experience the display on an Evoke Mio or Evoke 1S appearing blank or' black' with no visible text. If this happens to your radio, you should try removing all power sources from the product - including any installed ChargePAK battery packs. Reapply power as normal and the screen and text should reappear as normal.

If this doesn't solve the problem then contact the Pure support team for further advice.

BBC Radio 7 is missing?

On Saturday the 2nd of April the digital radio station BBC Radio 7 becomes BBC Radio 4 Extra. The change of name brings some changes to the programming including new extended versions of some Radio 4 programmes (including The Now Show and The News Quiz) but the majority of the programming will remain much-loved archive productions, and continue to focus on comedy, drama and entertainment. You can read more about the change here: www.pure.com/radio4extra/

You may need to retune your digital radio to receive Radio 4 Extra. On Pure radios this is done using the ‘Autotune’ option – refer to your user guide on performing the Autotune function on your radio.

You can also listen to Radio 4 Extra on the Pure Lounge (www.thelounge.com) and will be able to access the additional podcast and listen again content online and on any internet connected Pure Flow radios.

Resetting your Pure DAB radio

All Pure products give you the option of being able to return the product to its original factory settings by performing a 'Factory Reset'. As well as being useful for fully re-tuning the radio, a reset effectively 're-boots' the product's operating system which removes any user settings and can often resolve any anomalies found.

Note: This FAQ is only relevant to Pure DAB radios. If you have a Pure internet radio then follow the instructions found here: http://support.pure.com/kb_article.php?ref=9987-PJLC-3917

Please be aware that all user settings such as presets and timer/alarm settings are lost when performing a factory reset.

Instructions for resetting your PureE DAB radio

Ensure the aerial is fully extended and press and hold the 'Info', 'Setup' or 'Menu' button (depending on your radio model) for around 3 seconds. You will see a message appear on the radio screen saying something along the lines of 'Press Tune to confirm reset...' (on some models you may need to turn the 'Tune' dial to 'Factory Reset')

Confirm the reset by pushing the Tune or Select dial in to confirm. You'll know you've done it right because the the radio will switch itself off and on again.

The radio will now perform an autotune and detect all DAB stations in range of it.

Congratulations, you have now performed a factory reset on your Pure radio.

Installing software/firmware for your product

You will find detailed instructions on how to upgrade your Pure product via USB here: support.pure.com/troubleshooter.php

Make sure you choose your product carefully when looking for software updates as not all Pure products have software updates available for them. If you see no software update listed for your product then there is currently no available update for it.

When installing a software update on your PURE product you should be sure you are not installing an older version than the one currently installed.  PURE software updates are numbered (e.g. v1.2), so  consult your product user guide on how to determine your product’s current software version, and compare to the version you are attempting to install.

You will need computer running Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32 bit versions only). 64bit Windows and Apple Macintosh computers are not supported in the process of upgrading PURE product software.

Warranty terms and returns procedure for 'in warranty' product

Pure warranty terms for brand new product.

At Pure we go to great lengths to ensure that we minimise the impact that production and supply of our digital radios has on the environment. This is clearly demonstrated by EcoPlus, our statement of ongoing commitment to our environment and its future. It indicates that environmental impact has been considered in the design, manufacture and transport of our products and has driven both what we do and how we do it.

We extend this commitment across to our returns policy too.

Any faulty units sent back to Pure will, in the first instance, be repaired and returned to you rather than be automatically replaced. In those circumstances where a unit cannot be repaired, we will replace it with a new unit if the original was less than 2 months old from the date of purchase. Similarly, if the unit is between 2 and 24 months old from the date of purchase and cannot be repaired, we will replace it with a refurbished one.

Please note that Pure ChargePAK's carry a 1 year warranty.

When returning the unit after repair it will be shipped back either in the original packaging supplied by the customer or in a plain brown box. Initially the turnaround time will be a maximum of 25 working days from when we receive the unit, which will be improved upon should parts be available for repair.

All other aspects of the returns policy listed in your product documentation remain unchanged.

Returns procedure

If you suspect you have a faulty Pure product you should start by contacting the Pure technical support team who will help you verify that the product is faulty. If the product is determined to be faulty then you will be advised by Pure support what action to take next. This will depend on whether your product is in warranty or out of warranty, but we will always need to know when the product was purchased, and if being returned to us - will need prior authorisation from the support team in the form of a 'RAN number'.

A copy of the purchase receipt may be required if acting under Pure warranty terms and conditions.

'Stereo Out' socket is not working properly

The ‘Stereo Out’ socket is a 'variable' output controlled by the volume of the radio and isn't a fixed 'Line Output'. It is possible that when using the Stereo Out socket the radio was turned down - inadvertently providing little or no output. If the volume is turned down, it is not sending a line level output - only when set at around 3 quarters full volume is it the output getting close to line level output.

The way to use the 'Stereo Out' is to connect as normal (e.g. to your Aux In device) and turn the radio volume up to roughly 3 quarters and then mute the radio. An another option is to plug a 3.5mm jack plug into the radio’s headphone socket while using the Stereo Out socket, which automatically mutes the radio speaker. This method gives you control over the variable 'Stereo Out' socket and supplies a good enough signal to your stereo's Aux-In or Line In. On top of this you can now control the overall volume through your stereo system or your radio’s volume dial.

Radio is not switching on when running on ChargePAK/batteries

To avoid the accidental switching on and the unnecessary draining of battery power, the power button on your radio behaves slightly differently when the radio is running on batteries/ChargePAK than it does when running on mains. On batteries/ChargePAK you need to press and hold the power button down for 2 or 3 seconds before it will respond. It's not touch sensitive like it is on mains.

Important notes when using a Pure ChargePAK

My ChargePAK isn't charging.

A Pure ChargePAK will only take on a proper charge in a temperature range between 18 - 45 degrees C (62 - 113 F) for the battery’s own protection. To ensure a successful charge please ensure your radio is charged within these ambient temperature ranges.

Once charged the internal battery will operate normally in and outside of these temperature ranges without issue.

My ChargePAK isn't lasting very long.

There are a number of reasons this could be happening.

  1. The volume you’re running the radio at. The life of your ChargePAK will depend on how loud you have been running the radio. If it appears that your ChargePAK isn’t lasting as long as the quoted times we give, then it’s more than likely due to the volume you’re running the radio at. Our quoted times are always based on the radio running at a low volume, and due to the power requirements of our radios, and the powerful amplifiers used, the power drain on the battery ramps up very quickly as you raise the volume.

For example, if we give figure of around 20hrs in between charges, this figure will be roughly 10 hrs (or half the original stated figure) when the radio volume is set at half. With the radio volume at anything over half volume then the figure will half again to around 5 hrs, and with the radio running at full volume you should expect no longer than 1 hr. These are rough guidelines but this principle can be applied across all ChargePAK

  2. The battery is old. Your ChargePAK battery has a finite lifespan – as all rechargeable batteries do. Under normal use the battery should last around 18 months, but after this time you may start to see a reduction in the length of time a ChargePAK will last. As the battery ages the cells start to die and the battery will not be able to take on the kind of charge it could do when it was new. Eventually the battery will take on little or no charge at all and it’s at this point you should think about replacing your ChargePAK.

Where can I purchase a ChargePAK from?

Some Pure retailers sell the ChargePAK, however if you're having difficulty obtaining a ChargePAK, check our web shop here: http://www.pureservicecentre.co.uk/ for availability.

 Safe disposal.

At the end of the life of your ChargePAK product you should consider a safe and environmentally friendly method of disposal. The ChargePAK is a battery pack and you are able to dispose of it at your local recycling centre. If you don’t know where your local recycling centre is then contact your local council authority who should be able to advise.

Radio controls fail to respond while listening

The problem is possibly related to 'Intellitext' data that has become corrupted. Try clearing any Intellitext data your radio may have stored by entering the Intellitext feature and choosing the ‘Clear All’ option.

Mains transformer getting warm

Yes this is perfectly normal. Your radio power supply can get very warm to the touch when used, but this is perfectly normal operation. It will reach a certain operating temperature and stay there.

It is perfectly safe to leave on all the time.

Siesta display brightness too low

We specifically made the decision to keep the functionality of the radio as simple as possible and minimize the number of options and as a result of this, the display brightness has been carefully tuned to meet the vast majority of ambient settings, and is only controlled via the 'Auto-Dimmer' at the front of the radio.

There is no manual control over the brightness settings on this radio I’m afraid.

Radio is not switching on when running on mains

If you find your radio no longer switches on and appears dead, it’s more likely to be the power supply rather than the radio. Try a new power supply before assuming the radio is faulty.

If you require a new power supply then all replacement parts for your Pure radio can be purchased by contacting the Pure Service Centre at http://www.pureservicecentre.co.uk/.

Do I lose alarm, preset or timer settings if my radio loses power?

No you wont. All Pure radios store settings like alarms, timers and presets indefinitely as the radio writes these details to an EPROM chip which doesn't require any power or batteries to keep them stored.

You will need the radio mains powered if you want your timers or alarms to trigger. Our alarms will not sound if you are running your radio on batteries/ChargePAK.

Apple Macintosh support for PURE radio/tuner upgrading

We don't currently support Apple Macs or Windows 64 for our firmware updates. We are looking at supporting both platforms in the near future as well as other commonly used operating systems such as Linux and Unix, but the current size of our software development programme means we can only provide resources to support the operating system most commonly used by our customers - which is currently 32bit Windows.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
