Our underlying music tagging service is provided by Shazam, the world-leading music discovery provider with a database of over eight million tracks, then linking to 7Digital's multi-million track music library for purchase. These track databases cover a wide range of genres, but it is undoubtedly true that they favour more popular music over classical. Part of this is in the nature of classical music and the requirement to match not just the piece being played, but the particular performance. For instance the system will not necessarily have a way of determining conductor, orchestra and location as might be expected.

Then this is complicated by the fact that the classical music available to download digitally tends to come from the classical charts and top selling albums and movie soundtracks, so this again reduces the classical success rate on FlowSongs\ Pure Tag.

Saying all this, we do continue to work with our providers to improve the success rate of FlowSongs\ Pure Tag with Classical music and hope to make improvements in the area soon.

FlowSongs uses the MP3 codec for both the streaming and downloaded files. The streamed tracks are at 128kbps MP3, and the downloaded tracks are high quality 320kbps MP3 files.
