Internet Radios, Pure Connect/ The Lounge

'?' icon being seen on internet radio station listings

A question mark placed next to any station listed in your scrolling list of stations denotes an ‘intermittent’ stream-status. This means that the radio stream has been tested by the Pure Connect service but the stream is now unavailable. Unavailable streams are normally attributed to the radio station stream temporarily stopping broadcast, or in more severe cases that the stream has stopped entirely.

In situations where the station has stopped streaming permanently the stream will be removed from the radio list – normally within 48 to 72 hrs.

Upgrading the software on your Sensia 200D Connect

Check list:

You will need a freshly formatted USB stick to perform a software upgrade on your Sensia 200D Connect.
You will need the latest software download for the Sensia 200D Connect. You can get the latest software from here: http://support.pure.com/files.php?id=76
You will need a decompression tool like WinZip installed on your computer.

Preparing the file and your USB stick

When you download the file to your computer it will arrive as a compressed file (.ZIP) that will need decompressing. Use a decompression tool like WinZip to decompress (or ‘unpack’) the file, and save the file to a location on your computer that you will esily find. There is only a single .dfu file in the zip to save.
Make sure your USB stick is freshly formatted with no data stored on it.
Now copy or move the unpacked .dfu file to your freshly formatted USB stick. The .dfu file should be the only file present on the USB stick.

Installing the software on your Sensia 200D Connect

Insert the USB stick into the Sensia 200D Connect's USB socket.
On your Sensia 200D Connect select Settings > Update > USB Update.

The update process will begin but note that it may take around five minute to complete. Ensure that you do not switch off your Sensia 200D Connect during the update process or the update may fail.

Where has the Lounge gone? / What is Pure Connect?

We have rebranded the Lounge and it is now called Pure Connect.

Pure Connect is still your online gateway to a world of live radio, on-demand content (podcasts, listen again programmes and ambient sounds) and all the music you’ll ever want. It is exactly the same service just with a different name, though this rebranding has been done to pave the way for some exciting improvements over the next few months.

Some products will still refer to the Lounge. These include Contour, Avanti Flow, Sirocco 550, Oasis Flow and Sensia.  If you are connecting your product for the first time, creating a new account, or logging into your current account or your iPhone App you will now be directed to Pure Connect (Connect.pure.com)

Note- You will still have access to new.thelounge.com this will be available for a few more weeks.

Your Broadband Speed Test

Broadband speed, otherwise known as bandwidth, is how much digital information can be received over your internet connection. Its measurement is displayed in megabits per second (Mbps) and the higher the speed or bandwidth, the faster your internet connection will be.

Click 'Start speed test' above to test your speed. If you are experiencing audio dropouts or loss of internet radio streams you should run this test. For more accurate results you should run the test at the time you are experiencing dropouts or stream loss, and run the test 3 or 4 times and take the average as the final result.

For uninterrupted streaming on your Pure radio your 'Download Speed' should be no less that 1Mb/s. This will ensure that any other internet usage on your network will not hinder your radio stream and provide broken or interrupted audio.

A download speed of anything less than 1Mb/s my result in interrupted or 'dropped' audio streams, especially if there is other activity happening on the same network - such as internet browsing on a computer.

Resetting your PURE internet radio

On all Pure products you have the option of being able to return the product to its original factory settings. As well as being useful for fully re-tuning the radio, a reset effectively 're-boots' the product's operating system which removes any user settings such as presets and timer/alarm settings. A reset can often resolve any anomalies found.

Note: You will need to re-enter your network security information after performing a factory reset. Make sure you have your network security key to hand before performing a reset or you will not be able to re-connect your radio to the internet.

Instructions for EVOKE Flow/AVANTI Flow/ Oasis Flow/ ONE Flow/ Contour: Make sure your radio is switched on. Press and hold the 'Options' button down for two or three seconds and confirm the reset when prompted.

Instructions for Siesta Flow: Make sure your radio is switched on. Press and hold the 'Options' button down for three or four seconds and confirm by pressing the 'YES' button when prompted.

Error code ERRS1

You’ll normally see this message if there has been some corruption in the radio's software, or the WiFi software upgrade process has failed. If you see this message you can easily recover your radio by installing its latest software via a USB connection.

Before starting - there are several requirements needed to ensure a successful software recovery via USB:

  • Make sure you have removed any installed ChargePAK batteries (if applicable) before updating your radio. The radio needs to be switched on and running on mains power only.

Please note - do not connect your radio to your computer via USB until instructed to by the software update package. If you have already connected your radio you should disconnect the USB cable and reboot both the radio and the computer in preparation.

Incorrect reading from Oasis Flow battery meter

Immediately after switching on and when running your Oasis Flow on battery power, you may notice the battery charge icon display 50% charge level - regardless of how much power is actually in the battery. Please note that it takes a couple of minutes for the Oasis charging system to work out exactly how much power is left in the battery, so you will notice the battery meter reflect the correct charge level after this period of time.

Internet radio streams dropping connection

Try the following:

  • Wireless network channel sharing? You should ensure you are not sharing the same Wi-Fi channel as another network close by (you have 13 to choose from). Use a tool like http://wifihopper.com/ and check to see if you are sharing the same channel as another network nearby. Armed with this info, does the problem persist if you move to a free channel?
  • Make sure your router is running the latest firmware. Make sure you have your network encrypted using the WPA encryption method (not WEP). You will need to consult your wireless router user guide for details on how to change this.
  • Make sure your network is running in a B\G environment and not an N environment. You will need to consult your wireless router user guide for details on how to change this.

  • Reboot your router to enable it to reset its DHCP IP pool and re-list your radio. You should try a router reboot if you experience and unusual network anomalies.

  • Make sure you have enough downloadable bandwidth available to you. You need at least 1mb downstream free for uninterrupted streaming. Check www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk speed checker to check your download rate.

802.11n network support

Pure internet radios will work on most 802.11n networks, however they will run as an 802.11g client and you will not gain speed benefits associated from an 11n network. However, PURE internet radios don't actually need the additional speed offered by 11n networks to operate normally.

You may also be interested to know that you should gain the greater range offered on a 11n access point - even with the radio running as an 11g client, and any use of radios running as an 11g client will not impede the use of 11n clients on the same network.

Please note that we have had reports from some users that their radios are not operating correctly on their N networks. Symptoms tend to be seen as a failure to connect to the network even after entering correct network security keys. If you are having difficulty connecting your PURE device to your N network you should ensure your router is up to date with the latest version of firmware and that you are using the WPA encryption method to secure your network. You may need to revert your router to B\G if you are still having problems.

Important notes regarding internet radio bandwidth usage and broadband download limits

You should be aware that listening to internet radio stations, listen again programmes, podcasts and PureSounds will contribute towards any download limit agreement you may have with your broadband provider. If you have concerns about your brodband limit you should be able to find out more about by checking the terms and conditions of your account, or by contacting your broadband provider directly.

Using an interent radio uses bandwidth and is considered downloading.

Binding your Reach F10 remote control
